![]() ![]() There have been no issues at all and he has had the newer model for over two weeks now. Just thought I would let you all know that I recently wrote to "cooperivan" on that thread on Reddit (that I mentioned above) on the same wake issue and he confirmed that the issues he had been having with his Macbook Pro 16 inch and the LG 5K not waking from sleep or the auto-brightness not working have been non-existent since he bit the bullet and replaced his older 27MD5KA-B (older model) of the LG 5K with the most recent iteration, the 27MD5KL-B. But chances are that all of us have model numbers 27MD5KA or 27MD5KB. I’d be interested to know if others with the new model are having this issue. I’m currently trying to do this with LG as I bought my monitor just over a month ago. Here is a link to one thread where “cooperivan” says the issue disappeared when he replaced his B model with the new L model. I was interested to see if one of your LGs was this new model number. My model number is 27MD5KB-B, manufactured in April 2019, whereas the model now being sold by Apple is 27MD5KL-B. That being said, I’ve also seen reports of the issue not occurring with the very latest version of the LG Ultrafine 5K monitor. It looks like this is an issue on the Apple side of things, since it is happening with different brands of monitor, including Apple monitors as you experienced yourself. I have a case number with Apple, and with LG. ![]() Hi there, I’ve also been following this thread and several others, because I have the issue of my LG 5K monitor not waking up from sleep (connected to my Macbook Pro 16 inch with an AMD 5300 graphics card, which seems less faulty than the 5500–I have none of the other issues you and others are reporting). I traded in the the 15" MBP and sold the Thunderbolt Display so I cannot test anymore. The wake issue happened within a day of receiving the MBP and connecting to the Thunderbolt Display. Prior to the 16" MBP, I had a 3 year old 15" MBP and the Thunderbolt Display worked flawlessly. I purchased the MBP and LG in December (not sure which version of the LG display I have, I will have to check tonight when I am home). I do not mirror displays, I have the LG as the main display with the menus and use the MBP as the secondary display to move apps to such as mail or messages. I have had to hard restart by holding the power button. I have not tried closing the MBP lid and seeing if that helps. I can't see anything on the MBP to open the systems preferences to try and "detect displays". For me, when it happens it is usually after an extended sleep (overnight), the MBP flickers and the LG display is blank. Lately it has been fine, although I did experience a color shift (display and MBP colors were over-saturated) on one wake and had to restart to resolve. Updated to 10.15.3 and still experienced the same issue. originally I connected the Apple Thunderbolt Display to the 16" MBP and experienced the wake from sleep issue which is why I purchased the LG monitor (from Apple Store). I've followed and also commented on this thread with the same wake from sleep issues. The Apple Genius is pretty confident that the problem is a software glitch that will be fixed in the next OS update. And yes, while testing no external devices plugged in and had the Mac's own power chord charging the Mac, so as not to rely on the LG monitors power supply. ![]() Workarounds are: Restart Computer or pull out cable from monitor to Mac and replug it in. Today I went to the Apple Store and had a Genius run all the diagnosis software to check the hardware. Then played musical chairs with all the thunderbolt slots, to check if one of them was not working. Have spent many hours with Apple support and gone through the following 'repairs': SMC, PRAM, Safe Mode, Reinstall OS. My old 15"MBP does not have this problem with this monitor. After sleep mode, the LG monitor will not wake but Mac still thinks it has two active monitors. ![]() Does not matter if sleep mode is automatic or manual. The Mac will not wake up the LG Ultrafine 5K monitor, when resuming from sleep mode. I am experiencing the same problem with my new MBP 16" with AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory. ![]()
